Chimicamente, the BASF contest on innovative projects

Production and management of a large-scale event for high schools, organised by the leading multinational in the chemical industry.

Project summary

To mark the company’s 150th anniversary, the multinational BASF launched — in partnership with the non-profit Officine Roma Makers — a competition open to technical institutes and high schools across the province of Rome, aimed at drawing attention to chemistry as the science and technology underpinning economic and social progress.

The contest ran for two editions, in 2015 and 2016, on the themes of Urban Living and Smart Technologies. Chirale handled its organisation and coordination, along with technical support for the competing school teams, opening its own spaces and digital fabrication facilities for the prototyping of the finalist ideas.

Deliverables

Chirale’s technicians assessed and analysed the projects and applications received, giving the jury and BASF Italia’s communication team the material they needed to select the finalists.

Every team built its prototype using the infrastructure and workshops of Spazio Chirale.

The awards ceremony was held at Teatro 1 in Cinecittà, before a jury drawn from the maker and academic worlds.

Results

The contest drew enthusiastic participation from many high schools across the province of Rome. The image return for the client company was positive and of high quality, with significant coverage in the national press.

All the winning projects went on to further development and earned additional recognition over time.
