Spazio diviso Due by Maurizio Mochetti

Conceived in 1967 by one of the most important contemporary artists and only realised in 2019, thanks to our technology.

Project summary

Maurizio Mochetti needs no introduction.

A refined conceptual artist, he is always able to surprise the viewer with elegant, minimal effects, achieved through highly advanced, ultra-modern technologies that remain carefully concealed in order to highlight the magic radiating from his art.

Spazio diviso Due is a work conceived in 1967 and listed in his official catalogue with its concept: “given a Space, a square of red light divides it into two volumes.” Nothing more, nothing less. Yet it had never been realised until 2019.

The technology of the time had been unable to give concrete form to the Great Master’s idea — at least not in his own style, in which light is no longer the mystical element of classical art but a simple material to be shaped creatively.

Thanks to our technological research, the work today splits the space in two by means of a square of red laser light: a new technology to express a timeless concept.

Deliverables

In Mochetti’s work, technology must remain invisible, secret and mysterious.

Everyone can see that we used laser light, but exactly how the square that divides the space into two was achieved will remain a secret shared between us and the Great Artist.

Results

Spazio diviso Due was shown for the first time at Spazio Chirale during the first Chirale n.1 exhibition, held in our gallery in 2019. It is currently part of our permanent collection.
