TRAINING
The fifth edition of the analog photography workshop is starting
All the previous editions of the Photography and Darkroom Workshop have sold out. The fifth seasonal edition of this course, which has become a best seller of our programme, will take place on 26 and 27 May 2018.
The return of interest in analog photography and in the alchemy of darkroom development and printing is by now a confirmed trend, not only because of the steady release on the market of new products — films and chemicals — but also because of the high demand for workshops like ours, where it is possible to experience first-hand, and in an immersive way, the fascination of the entire analog workflow, from the shot on film to the print on photographic paper.
What has most thrilled the more than 40 students who have already lived this experience to date is the possibility of personally performing every step, from spooling your own roll to the emotion of development, all the way to the satisfaction of the first print made in complete autonomy.
The analog process takes its time and is very different from the massive, frenetic production of digital shots. For a large part of the time it is not possible to know whether the latent image has really been impressed on the film: any error in loading the camera, in the shot, in the rewind or in mixing the chemicals can lead to the destruction of your work.
The nightmare of a completely transparent film emerging from the developing bath is always present in every photographer, from the moment when, in total darkness, they load the developing tank, until the joyful and liberating cry that inevitably accompanies the opening of the spirals after the last rinsing bath.
The images that will be fixed on paper over 24 hours after the shot will always be the result of a unique and unrepeatable process, and it is for this reason that art photography will always need this type of process and digital technology cannot be the answer to the needs of those who approach photography with the intent of creating unique and original material works.
After the sold-out success of the four previous editions, the new workshop will take place on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 May. Our collection of analog reflex cameras, with models ranging from the 1970s to today, is available for those without their own camera; three Durst enlargers and three lines of process baths with cutting-edge high-tech black-and-white chemicals await you for an experience that will engage all your senses and project you into a timeless dimension.
