Arduino Day 2019: Contemporary Art and Technology on display at Spazio Chirale
Works by Maurizio Mochetti, Gonzalo Borondo and other contemporary artists on display in Garbatella from 16 March, to celebrate the most iconic of Maker technologies.
On 16 March, the World Day dedicated to one of the iconic technologies of the entire Maker culture is celebrated.
We are talking about Arduino, much more than a simple electronic board. A real platform, born in Italy, in Ivrea in 2005, which in just a few years has changed forever the field of Electronic Design — democratising the most pervasive of the technologies that characterise the contemporary world.
With Arduino, anyone can build, in a simple and immediate way, an interactive electronic product. You don’t need to be a technician or have specific skills in computing or electronics. What counts is creativity and imagination.
It is not surprising that the first users of Arduino were precisely artists, creatives and designers.
Many works of contemporary art on display in the most important museums in the world exist thanks to Arduino, and the Fab Lab of Rome itself was born in 2012 to support the community of avant-garde artists that frequents the clubs and Academies of the Capital.
Arduino is a technology that well represents the spirit and enthusiasm of the Maker Movement.
In our Spaces it is not rare to find side by side Famous Internationally Established Artists, Passionate Makers, Young Emerging Designers and University Researchers — each engaged in their own creation, each enthusiastic about sharing their ideas in a continuous process of contamination between methods, cultures and languages of different origins.
The fruit of these contaminations is found in Art Galleries, Contemporary Art Museums, scientific laboratories, the products of the new digital craftsmanship — but also in the garages, gardens and homes of DIY enthusiasts, because creativity has no limits and is democratic, like the open source culture that permeates our environment.
As part of the programme of activities that includes more than 550 events in more than 100 different nations across the planet, our Community too has decided to celebrate by organising a special day, inside Spazio Chirale in Garbatella, which for the occasion will be open from 10:30 in the morning until late at night. Here the full agenda.
We could not fail to invite the most important artists who have worked with our FabLab or in our FabLab: the result will be a unique event, where works by Artists of the calibre of Maurizio Mochetti or Gonzalo Borondo will be on display, in a journey connecting the avant-gardes of Kinetic Art of the last 30 years with the most advanced trends in Street Art.
As always at Spazio Chirale, the protagonists will be the processes as well as the works. If Modern Art is at the same time Aesthetic, Technical and Conceptual, Spazio Chirale is the place where this synthesis becomes most evident.
Alongside the artworks, located in the Gallery with Window onto the Street, the prototypes will be displayed that tell the latest frontiers of experimentation with Arduino — from Artificial Intelligence to the Internet of Things and Collaborative Interaction — also leaving space for the most professional design and prototyping methods.
All Makers, Creatives and Artists, professionals, established or simply curious, are invited to bring their own creations — provided they are made with Arduino!
During the day there will be room for meetings, idea exchanges, brief talks, mini-workshops and live experimentation. And towards evening, aperitivo with pizza and beer and electronic music until late.
The Event is Free and Open Access, however registration is recommended. No one will ask you for a ticket at the entrance, but it helps us to size our hospitality.
