Setup of the new FabLab Ostiense has begun
On Friday 18 October we will open our new laboratory inside the brand-new Campus Talent Garden Ostiense. The building is ready and the first machines are about to arrive.
Located inside the brand-new Campus of Talent Garden that has just opened in the splendid restored complex right next to the former Centrale Montemartini, on via Ostiense in Rome, the building that will host our new FabLab is ready to receive the first machines.
In the coming days we will complete the basic setup of what is destined to become one of the largest and best-equipped FabLabs in Europe.
The new structure, which will be inaugurated on Friday 18 October at the start of Maker Faire Rome, will strengthen the presence of Spazio Chirale in southern Rome, allowing the expansion of our training offering and the launch of new R&D activities in the field of Fashion and Design technologies.
The laboratory will also be the reference FabLab for the entire community of Roman Taggers, especially those living inside the Ostiense Campus.
The entrance is located in via Ostiense 92, right opposite the very modern Settimia Spizzichino bridge that connects this area to the Garbatella district, our historical headquarters.
In the coming days we will announce the most important news connected to the strengthening of our structure. New Higher Vocational Training Master-level courses are planned, as well as the launch of new digital fabrication service activities.
The building hosting the new FabLab used to be the old workshop used for the maintenance and reconditioning operations of the transformers of the Centrale Montemartini, whose imposing structures form the majestic skyline visible from the windows on the right side of the laboratory.
The other side overlooks an artificial canal that once served to collect the discharges of the power plant, leading them towards the settling tanks located in the industrial archaeology complex that forms the evocative landscape visible from the inner car park of the Ostiense Campus.
Inside the building, the great loading bridge used in the old workshop is still visible — its rails have been left intact and visible at the top of the two side walls, beneath the wooden-beam roof.
