Open House 2018: A great success with the public
Great success with the public for the joint initiative between Spazio Chirale and the Atelier of Alessandra Calvani, jewellery designer highly appreciated internationally, organised on the occasion of the Open House Rome 2018 event. On display, in addition to Calvani Design products, the digital fabrication processes of Spazio Chirale, from 3D Printing to the other technologies derived from Maker culture.
The 2018 edition of Open House Rome ended today, having animated the capital over the weekend with more than 200 places of cultural interest open to the public and with free guided tours.
Among the recommended appointments was also the joint event organised by Studio Calvani Design in collaboration with Spazio Chirale, which registered a great success, both in terms of public attendance and in terms of the quality of the exhibition.
The atelier Alessandra Calvani Design is located within an area rich in industrial archaeology. The atmosphere of the place — a former foundry from the early 1900s — retains the vocation of its origins with the predominance of iron and bricks, typical of the industrial buildings of the time, but with the addition of a contemporary spirit in the careful architectural recovery of the entire complex, which today houses architecture studios, design galleries, fashion showrooms and exhibition spaces.
The jewellery of Alessandra Calvani is characterised by its absolutely original design and by the use of innovative processes based on digital fabrication technologies, and a meticulous care in the choice of materials — elements that have decreed her international success, bringing her brand inside the shops of the most prestigious museums around the world.
Spazio Chirale has set up within the Atelier an exhibition dedicated to digital fabrication processes, starting from the live 3D Printing station and then proceeding through a path that touched on all the main technologies that our Fab Lab and Research Centre make available to designers to experiment with new expressive languages.
Laser Cutting, Thermoforming, Replication with Silicone Moulds and Polyurethane Resins, Vinyl Cutter, new-generation Heat-Transferable Materials, InkJet Printing and Interactive Electronics.
The public — numerous and composed of many visual and creative arts professionals — was able to touch first-hand the collection of samples from the very rich Materials Library of Spazio Chirale, and interest in the new processing technologies was very high.
The new offer of Higher Training Courses was presented to the public on the occasion, dedicated to Creativity Professionals and to all those who want to approach the world of digital fabrication and Maker culture in a professional way. Discover our courses in the Academy section.
